Matt McConnell
Matt McConnell is a North Carolina native sculptor, based in his hometown. His work can be found in an extensive number of private collections, residential, commercial (corporate and institutional) and public spaces. McConnell and his team create in his studio sculptures, architectural installations and a large variety of functional art using an equally extensive assortment of materials. The scale of his work can vary from hand-held awards and tabletop sculptures to large scale public artwork, found in diverse settings both locally, nationally and internationally. The quality of materials, color and finishes are critical to the durability as well as the high level of craftsmanship of all his work.
McConnell’s sculptural work is centered in the expression of natural forces and motion, most often with linear form. Grasping the feeling of growth and change, together with transformation and repetition is a common theme in his pieces. The focus is to bring the energy of natural forces into the artwork to achieve that goal. Capturing and expressing these patterns in life is an essential element of his creative process.
His work is primarily abstract, but commissioned work often responds to location and conceptual influences, allowing the viewer to interpret the piece based on context and personal experience, which allows for three-dimensional thought-provoking sculptures. McConnell’s broad professional experience and creative vison qualifies him to contribute to the successful execution of even the most unusual and challenging projects.
Liz Contag Art is honored to represent Matt McConnel with exclusivity in Oregon, California and Washington.
