Rob Lorenson
Rob Lorenson is a mid-career sculptor living and working from his studio in Middleboro, Massachusetts. Born in Iowa, Lorenson attended the University of Northern Iowa and Northern Illinois University to study sculpture for Undergraduate and Graduate School respectively. Lorenson grew up influenced by Calder, Picasso and Dubuffet. Large outdoor modernist art was something that seemed natural to him as a career path.
Studio apprenticeships with sculptors in and around Chicago was an important part of his development. In the mid 1990’s he started exhibiting alongside those he apprenticed with at Navy Pier in Chicago. From these shows his career gained notoriety with critics, collectors, and fellow sculptors alike.
In 1999 Lorenson relocated to Massachusetts to teach sculpture at Bridgewater State University. Gallery representations soon followed in Massachusetts and Florida, which brought several significant opportunities. His body of work is known for clean, simple modern lines, exceptional craft and bold statements in color and material. His sculptures range in a wide variety of sizes, from tabletop to twenty-five feet expressions. His commissioned work is numerous and his artwork is comprised in over 300 public and private collections around the world. Liz Contag Art is proud to represent Lorenson, with exclusivity in Oregon.
